At The Speed Of Blog

Posted on 17. Mar, 2010 by esm in Getting Started, Other Information

Cha Cha Changes… David Bowie

53 years ago I was reading a chronicle of important information, there had been a new invention that allowed communication between individuals. It had a great range and would speed the transmissions with a push of the button.

Mankind has strived for eons to make the movement of knowledge and important information a top priority. The Incas and the Romans are a good example of the beginning trials for the search of the most efficient process to move documents and high priority notes from one point to the next.

On different continents these two different groups built basically the same types of a connected network of information channels. They built roads and pathways for information to travel. One man can walk say 20 miles a day. 10 men can run 100 miles a day if they are in a single line, but 500 miles in a day or more if they are inter connected. It’s faster, more efficient and offers multiple avenues of expansion. Cobweb, Cobweb in 3D, get the idea?

Well today, 53 years later, the desire to transfer and receive information is just as great. The length of the road is just as long. I can talk to you and see your lips move as you respond back to me! And we could be at opposite ends of the earth. Even with this huge advancement over the ages, we now complain about lag and frame rates.

5000 years ago they carried letters. Today, a stack of those letters would reach to the moon and back several times. And this is just the information on the internet now! This book aka; Internet is going to get big. Anything you might want to ask will have been answered 10 times over.

So now I blog, blogging is just a spoke in the wheel on the information highway. Any time anyone can add information to this book, it’s just going to be better for everyone else. Social blogging and centralized public sites are a way for anyone to exchange ideas, articles and or just about any transaction you can imagine.

53 years ago, I was reading, it was the newest greatest, fastest way to communicate. It was a Sunday and I had just received one of the fastest forms of communication, the Sunday paper comics, I was reading Dick Tracy. He had just received his wrist radio. With the push of a button he could speak to you and you could respond back to him. But, he could not see your lips move. It only took 53 years.

What will they come up with in the next 50?

I just blogged about it…

Enjoy,
esm

As a unique way of looking at what blogging really means, a few of us gathered together our thoughts on how blogging can change the world and our individual lives. This is what we came up with:

Can A Blog Change the World?” by Ruth: “Blogging as an opportunity to use your voice for what you truly believe in, changing your world for the better”.

My Blogging Vision” by Lisa: “When I started blogging back in October of 2007, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I’ve seen a lot of changes in my life since then yet my vision for my blog remains the same.”

My Blogging Journey” by Stephen: “Life has been a journey of twists and turns for me. As an introvert it has sometimes been a little bit too stimulating…if life has taught me anything, it is that the world is an amazing place with so many struggles, challenges, opportunities and stories from real people.”

All About Me” by Donny: “All About Me – Well maybe not all. I wanted to take a minute and give everyone a chance to get to know a bit about who I am, how I got here, what I hope to accomplish and why I am looking to Internet Marketing and, more specifically, Niche Blogging for income.”

Turning Dreams Into Goals” by Donna: “For the past year my dream has been to make enough money working online so that both me and my husband could work from home. We have a business that I currently run from home and I wanted to turn that over to him while I created websites.”

Why I Blog and Why I’ll Continue to Blog” by Michelle: Inspired by others who ‘care’, I got to thinking about the world we all live in and how we have this amazing communication channel we know as the World Wide Web: I wondered if by blogging, can I change the world? Here’s some of the thoughts that quickly came to mind”

Blogging Vision 2010” by Jen: “AkitaJitsu’s “Niche Blogging for Non-Techies” is all about answering technical questions about building niche blogs in a non-technical way. Jen (aka, Akitajitsu) started the blog a few months ago, and has written a plan for the blog’s future. She hopes this blog will become a popular resource for niche bloggers.”

Blogging to Change the World – My World” by Leslie: “Blogging can be a hobby, something you do for fun. For me, it changed my world for the better. It made my life the dreamlife I always envisioned.”

Niche Blogging” by Loren: “Making goals, missing goals and maintaining blogging relationships.”

It makes my mind go crazy to think about what’s happened in 50 years. Not just 50 years, but even the last few years. I am constantly doing so many things at once these days – watching TV, googling something, checking my emails. So much information constantly flying around everywhere.

This is such a great post. I’m also glad to say that among the madness, we still have people that stand out, who we can “meet” and get to know thanks to those cables. I never would have thought I’d have so many friends across the world as I do now, and many more too meet I’m sure :)

Technology is amazing. It has changed and will continue to change our lives in amazing ways.

It’s amazing how that was once considered science fiction or futuristically unobtainable is now common place or possible thought of as even unimaginative. We used to pass note in class hoping not to get caught, now kids text each other….The difference is now, if you get caught, they take your phone…back then you still needed your pencil.

I really love how you set up this article and made the connection on what we once believe was fiction and impossible, and is now very much incorporated in our live. I also wonder what the next 50 years will bring :)

The rate at which technology changes is definitely mind boggling. I’m glad that something like blogging has become so popular – I think it’s recovering the lost art of letter writing, but in a modern way.

I hope I get to see what the next 50 years brings!

Orwell predicted amazing things…and most of them happened. The changes now seem to come at lightening speed and I slow down and let the ebb take me where it may.

I have a daughter that lives in England. With me here in Canada, I love what technology offers us – connection and interaction in ways we couldn’t have imagined when I was a kid.

Anything is possible. Here’s to the next 50…let’s make it one that saves the earth.

You are so right when you say that we have come a long way! I loved your article…very well written and very intriguing… :-)

It’s information like this that reminds me how truly amazing our communication options are today. Thanks you for the reminder.

I often think about all those sci-fi movies that have hover cars flying around in them and sigh and wish we had something like that now. I ‘feel’ it’s not going to happen anytime soon but you never know what the next fifty years will bring! Whatever it is, here’s to it being worth celebrating!

Going back to the early times, I could not have imagined the enormousness of our current technological advancement. Looking 50 years from now, perhaps our communication would be much more personal–like the materialization of hologram technology, like we could see the full 3d image of the person we are communicating with. :-)

Everyone has some great ideas on where we are at and where we are going.

It is amazing how the speed of communication seems to be increasing with exponential rapidity. In the next 50? Well, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if “beam me up Scotty” becomes a reality.
